About

Dr. Kaprielian is Professor of Family Medicine and Associate Dean for Faculty Development and Medical Education at the Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine. She directs the Master of Health Professions Education program, as well as the medical school course on Epidemiology and Population Health. She is the lead instructor on Patient Safety and Quality Improvement, and does summer medical outreach in Armenia with CUSOM students and faculty.

Dr. Kaprielian has more than 2 decades of experience in all levels of medical education. Before joining CUSOM in 2013, she served in multiple roles at Duke University including in medical student and resident education, CME, and faculty development programs. She is well versed in education in several health professions, having served in past years as Interim Chief of the Duke Doctor of Physical Therapy Program, and Chair of the Board of the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants. She completed an F. Marion Bishop Fellowship with the American Council on Education and the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine in 2009-10, focusing her study on interprofessional education in Canada and the US.

Dr. Kaprielian received her Bachelor of Arts in Human Biology from Brown University, and MD from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Medicine. She completed residency in the Duke-Watts Family Medicine Residency Program, followed by a Clinician-Teacher Fellowship at UCLA. She has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, written book chapters, and presented at both national and international meetings. Her primary academic interests focus around education, including innovative teaching methods and assessment of effectiveness of various educational modalities.

Dr. Kaprielian is a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine and a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. She serves as peer reviewer for multiple journals, and in 2012 received and Outstanding Reviewer Award from the Association of American Medical Colleges MedEdPORTAL Publications. She is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha honor societies, and in 2015 was named an Alpha Chi Omega Alumna Woman of Distinction.
