Thomas Motyka

Dr. Thomas Motyka serves as Chair and Associate Professor in the Department of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine with a joint appointment in the Department of Internal Medicine. He is also Osteopathic Program Director for the Campbell University/Cape Fear Valley Internal Medicine Residency.

A graduate of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, he received his Doctor of Osteopathy from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Motyka completed his Internal Medicine Residency at The Cambridge Hospital/Harvard Medical School in Cambridge Massachusetts followed by a Primary Care Research Fellowship and Occupational/Preventive Medicine Residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC). He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Osteopathic Board of Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine.

Before joining the Campbell medical faculty Dr. Motyka was in private practice in Chapel Hill and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UNC. He also ran the Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine Clinic in the Department of Family Medicine at UNC. He is a past President and Trustee of the North Carolina Osteopathic Medical Association as well a North Carolina Representative the American Osteopathic Association House of Delegates. Dr. Motyka has served as the Program Chairman, member of the Louisa Burns Osteopathic Research Committee, and member of the Educational Committee for the American Academy of Osteopathy. 

Dr. Motyka’s research and clinical interests are in pain, tissue healing, musculoskeletal disease, and the osteopathic approach to patient care. Together with his wife he published The Rapid Recovery Handbook: Your Guide Complete Guide to Faster Healing After Surgery, Harper Collins 2006.
