About

Dr. Hammond has a bachelor of arts degree in Biology and General Science from Hiram College, and a doctoral degree in Biology from the University of South Carolina. His doctoral work included the regulation of translation of eukaryotic ribosomal protein genes during myoblast differentiation.  He was a postdoctoral fellow at the Los Alamos National Laboratory under the tutelage of Dr. Babetta Marrone, where he studied the incorporation and removal of florescent nucleotides by prokaryotic DNA polymerases as part of a high speed DNA sequencing technology initiative in the Human Genome Project.  He joined the Biology Department in the College of Arts and Sciences at Campbell University 1992 as an assistant professor.  He served in numerous administrative and academic roles for nearly three decades as department chair, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and then the Vice President for Academic Affairs & Provost until his return to the full time faculty in 2023.  He joined the Campbell University, School of Osteopathic Medicine (CUSOM) in 2023  and currently serves as a Professor of Biochemistry & Genetics and Associate Dean for Strategic Initiatives & Innovation.
