About

Dr. Bruce earned her Ph.D. in Epidemiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Health Services Research at the Cecil G. Sheps Center, University of North Carolina. She has a Masters of Health Policy and Administration and Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

The United States Government Accountability Office awarded Dr. Bruce a Special Commendation Award for her work in Veterans’ Affairs and Military Health Care Issues. Dr. Bruce was awarded a Cigna Quarterly Champion Award for her study on narcotics and opioid utilization following lumbar fusion surgery. She currently serves as Editor-In-Chief of the journal Patient Related Outcome Measures (Dove Medical Press, part of Taylor & Francis Group), and Senior Data Insights Analyst at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina.

Dr. Bruce is an outcomes researcher whose research interests include longitudinal psychological and clinical health outcomes, veterans’ and military health, scale development in pain and social functioning, biostatistics, health outcomes, morbidity and mortality, health economics, patient safety, and decision making. Dr. Bruce has specialized in longitudinal multivariable modeling, confounding and interaction, logistic regression, meta-analysis, risk-adjustment, medical and pharmacy claims database, risk prediction algorithms, mixed-effects models, and psychometric scale validation techniques. She also has expertise in scientific communication and experience teaching statistical concepts, with a passion for incorporating evidence-based findings into understandable and actionable insights for healthcare professionals.
