About
Dorothea K. Thompson is an Associate Professor in the Pharmaceutical Sciences Department at Campbell University. Dr. Thompson teaches medical microbiology and immunology in the Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum and technical writing in the undergraduate Pharmaceutical Sciences BS program. Dr. Thompson completed her Ph.D. at The Ohio State University and was the recipient of a postdoctoral fellowship at the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, U.S. Food and Drug Administration (Bethesda, MD). Dr. Thompson continued her postdoctoral training in the area of microbial functional genomics at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where she eventually was appointed to the positions of R&D Associate Staff Scientist and Group Leader for Microbial Ecology & Functional Genomics. Prior to Campbell University, Dr. Thompson was an Assistant Professor of Microbiology in the Department of Biological Sciences at Purdue University (West Lafayette, IN) and earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Tennessee College of Law. Her research interests include elucidating the molecular basis of antibiotic resistance in opportunistic bacterial pathogens and microbial stress response systems. Dr. Thompson’s recent research has been published in such peer-reviewed journals as American Journal of Infection Control, International Journal of Infectious Diseases, Pharmacogenomics, Pharmaceuticals, and Current Infectious Disease Reports.
